Hello All, I hope you had a wonderful week. We ended January with a bang! Get ready for a very busy month of February. Please see the "reminders" at the bottom of this post so that you are able to plan ahead! I am so excited to say that Ashley Whipple found us a great chair for the Art Walk! Now we just need to work together to design and decorate it! If you have any ideas or would like to participate with this project, please let me know! Another celebration we have is that our school hours for next year are officially 7:50am-2:50pm. I know there are some mixed feelings about this, but I personally am very happy about this! I was at a school last year that went until 3:40 and it was a very long day for the kiddos. We might have to wake up a little earlier, but there will be so much time after school to get things done and get in activities! This week we got into 3D shapes! We sorted shapes and then went on a scavenger hunt around the school! We also worked on a cute map project where we sorted and color-coded our continents. Here are some pictures from this week! Wow, what a week! We have been hard at work from learning about Martin Luther King Jr., to celebrating our 100th day of school! On Tuesday I handed out a permission slip for our upcoming field trip on February 10th! If you have your fingerprint card cleared through the district and would like to attend please let me know as soon as possible! If you are not part of the PTA Facebook page then you might not be aware of our schedule change for next school year. Next year the district is trying to change Rover's hours from 9:00am-4:00pm. I have already heard that some parents are concerned about this time change. Superintendent Chris Busch came to our PTA meeting this week and explained that nothing is set in stone and she would love to hear any concerns parents have. If this schedule change is at all an issue for you please email Chris Busch as soon as possible so that your voice can be heard. Her email address in [email protected]. She said the district will be making a decision in the next couple of weeks, so the sooner you reach out to her the better! Enjoy some pictures of our 100th Day of School Celebration. Don't forget to check out the "Reminders" below for important dates! Next Week Reading: We will be reading Little Rabbit's Tale. We will plan and work together to write the steps and then the students will do their final draft on their own. Social Studies: We ended up taking a break from our map unit to talk about Martin Luther King Jr., so we will wrap up our map unit next week! Grammar: We will be learning about prepositions and prepositional phrases. Wow, it has been a great week! We got a lot accomplished and everyone was working very hard! I have been so impressed with everyone's behavior so far this quarter. Next week we have a four day week in observance of MLK Day, so no school on Monday. We are going on a field trip February 10th! I will be sending out the permission slip next week, but I need parent volunteers. To volunteer for a field trip you must be fingerprinted through the District. Right now it shows that I have no parents able to come on the field trip. If you have been fingerprinted and would like to come please let me know. If you have not been fingerprinted and would like to come, you must get it done ASAP so it has time to process. If you have any questions about this please call me or the front office staff! Next Week Reading: We will be reading the story Tomas Rivera. Our phonics sound of the week will be ow, oa. Our focus skill will be sequencing events in a story. Math: We will be starting double digit addition! We will start by adding groups of ten. This can be a challenging concept for kids to grasp so we will be working on it for a few weeks, getting a little deeper each week! Writing: Next week we will be writing a Personal Narrative about a person we admire. Grammar: We will practice using past tense verbs. Social Studies: We will continue working on our map unit! Reminders **Field Trip-2/10, please get fingerprinted!! **No school 1/19-MLK Day Have a great three day weekend! -Miss Turco Happy New Year!
I can't believe it is 2015! I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break. It has been a great first week back to school. We really hit the ground running and the kids have had great behavior which always helps things run smoothly! :) There has been a change to Rover's Art Walk. This event was scheduled for Friday Jan. 31st, and has been moved to March 31st. Even though this event has been pushed back, I would still like to get started on it. At the Art Walk each class is responsible for auctioning off a decorated chair. If any of you are getting rid of any of your chairs from home, or have a chance to stop at Goodwill please let me know! It can be any old chair! Once we have the chair I will need a few people to help me brainstorm ideas for how we can decorate it. I hope to have a few parents help me out with this! Next Week Reading: Next week we will be reading the story Where Does Food Come From? Our phonics skill will be vowel pairs ay and ai. Our focus skill will be Author's Purpose. Math: Next week in math we will continue to work on Equal Shares (Fractions). We are focusing on halves, thirds, and fourths. We will also be working on counting by 10's. Writing: This week we will be working on an Opinion Narrative. We will be telling our favorite food and giving reasons to support our opinion. Social Studies: We have started our map unit in Social Studies. Last week we went on a tour of the World and discovered the seven Continents. We will dig deeper in to this next week! Grammar: In grammar we will be learning about the names of months, dates, and holidays. We will also talk about using commas in dates. Reminders **Please double check that your child has their library book to return on Mondays. We have been having quite a few people forgetting them each week and I want to make sure the kids are getting new books! Have a great week, let me know if you have any questions! -Miss Turco |
