Hello First Grade Families! We have been busy bees the last few weeks here at Rover. I can't believe first quarter is coming to an end. I am so looking forward to meeting with each of you this week to discuss your child's progress so far. In science we were learning all about the four seasons. Last week the students had to pick their FAVORITE season to write about in an opinion narrative. Finally, we added some art to show what a tree would look like throughout each season. Reminders: -Since Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week we are having early release Tuesday-Friday. The dismissal bell will ring at 1:00. -The Book Fair will be at Rover Tuesday-Friday in the Library! -Individual Picture Day is on Thursday. We will NOT be taking a group photo. It will be the photo used for the Yearbook. -This Thursday is Miss Turco's last day of grad school!!!! Graduation is on October 15th. -Next week is Fall Break so we will not have school :) Hope you have a great week! -Miss Turco

Hello, Updating you on my way home from Wisconsin! Hopefully the last few days have gone well with our sub, I know the kids are in great hands with Mrs. Sexton. I will be back Tomorrow, I can't wait! On Wednesday we will be having an On Demand Writing Assessment. We will start right at 8:00. Students will be given a prompt, time to create a thinking map and write a rough draft and time to write a final draft. We will be taking a quick recess break after students finish their rough draft. I know writing tests can sometimes be overwhelming for students but this assessment will just be used to see where students are at the beginning of the school year. We will take the official writing assessment for the state in November. It is that time to sign up for our Parent/Teacher Conferences! I love having this time to meet with you and discuss your child's progress so far in first grade and look at some goals for the rest of the school year. To understand this concept I put the students into groups of three and gave them each a number. They made their number poster and then met with their group to create 2 addition and 2 subtraction facts. Each group showed their facts to the class, it was a lot of fun! I love doing hands on learning to help kids grasp ideas! 5+6=11 6+5=11 11-6=5 11-5=6 3+6=9 6+3=9 9-3=6 9-6=3 7+4=11 4+7=11 11-4=7 11-7=4 8+2=10 2+8=10 10-8=2 10-2=8 9+5=14 5+9=14 14-9=5 14-5=9 10+4=14 4+10=14 14-10=4 14-4=10 5+8=13 8+5=13 13-5=8 13-8=5 I Love Seeing these kids take ownership of their learning! Please feel free to email me or contact me through Remind if you have any questions or concerns. I will see you Tomorrow! -Miss Turco :) Happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed your four day weekend! These kids have been working so hard these first few weeks of school, they deserved a little break. As I mentioned last week, I will be traveling to Madison, Wisconsin this week Thursday to Monday so Mrs. Sexton will be our sub for those three days. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns before Thursday. **If you participated in the PTA fundraiser, please get your orders turned in this week! Last week we played a fun subtraction bowling game... Here are some pictures of students having fun while learning! I also snapped a few photos of students working super hard during writing. Love seeing those smiling faces so proud of their work! Have a great week. -Miss Turco :) |
