HaPpY hAlLoWeEn!!!! I hope everyone who is participating in Halloween activities this evening has an amazing, safe time! We had a great week at school this week and these kids definitely deserve a little fun this weekend! This week the kids really pushed themselves in math! We had a blast learning about fact families. I gave groups of students three numbers and had them make all the possible fact families with their group. It is always great to get the kids up and moving! Here is a picture I captured of one group. Here is another cute picture I just have to share! I love leopard and leopard print so I had to get a picture of all this leopard cuteness! Our story in reading for next week is also called "How Leopard Got His Spots." Are you seeing a theme here? :) Next Week Reading: Our phonics skill will be digraph ch. Our focus skill will be sequencing events from the story. We will be emphasizing the vocabulary words: sequence, order and summary. Math: This week we will be learning about missing addends, and how to solve for the missing number. Example: 4+___=10 Writing: This week on Tuesday we will be having our district writing assessment. The students will be given a prompt to write about. The possible prompts with either be personal narrative, opinion narrative, or informative/expository. On Monday we will review the different types of writing and will have a practice run! The rest of the week we will writing an informative narrative about artists. Science: Even though Halloween is over we have a few more things to finish up for our spider unit! Grammar: We will continue working on proper nouns. I will also be introducing commands. It is also retake day for anyone who wanted to retake their individual picture. Have a great weekend! -Miss Turco

Today, the last of our boxes arrived so I will be working hard on Saturday to get our classroom nice and organized. I can't wait to be completely moved in! Tonight is the Fall Festival in Rover's Ram Arena. Thank you to all the parents who made a donation to our class basket. It is great to be back after a much needed Fall Break. I say much needed because it gave me just the right amount of time to get our classroom up and running for second quarter. The repairs are not 100% done but it was SO nice to be back in our normal routine this week! We really hit the ground running this week and I was so impressed with the work the students produced. Be prepared for a busy and exciting second quarter! Please make sure to check out the "reminders" section of my blog to stay current on events happening at Rover! Next Week Reading: As we continue "Walk to Read" this quarter, the phonics skills we are working on in each class are going to be completely different. I am going to post the phonics skill my "Walk to Read" class is working on, but just know if your child is in a different class they will be working on a different skill. This focus skill is going to be the same no matter what "Walk to Read" group they are in! Phonics Skill: R-Controlled Vowel /ar/ Math: Next week we will be starting a geometry unit. This unit will cover 2-d shapes. We will will be learning the name and characteristics of shapes along with how many sides, vertices, and edges the shape has.
