Wow, this quarter flew by! I can not believe it is already time for our spring Parent/Teacher Conference. 3rd Quarter was a big one. The students participated in PBL, we celebrated Valentine's Day, worked on challenging math concepts, and continued to make huge progress in reading and writing. I am so excited to show you some of the amazing work that has been completed and discuss your child's academic and social growth this school year. I have said many times, this is such a sweet and fun group of kids. I have really enjoyed this school year and am looking forward to our last quarter together. Please check out our March calendar so you now what to expect the next few weeks. Fourth Quarter is always a favorite of mine. We have taught the majority of our "big skills" so we take this time to reteach and extend the student's knowledge of different concepts. Here are some things you will next quarter: *Ancient Egypt *Time *Measurement *Opinion Narrative *Research and Informative Writing *In depth reading comprehension strategies *Solar System Here are some fun pictures so you can see what we have been up to! See you next week for our Parent/Teacher Conference!

-Miss Turco :) Hello there... I apologize for my lack of posts the last few weeks. I upload pictures using my personal laptop and unfortunately it needed to be repaired. I am back up and running thanks to the good people at the Apple Store and have LOTS of pictures to share! I cannot believe this school year is coming to an end. It has been such a special year! I was so happy to see so many of you at our end of the year performance. The kids worked so hard and had so much fun performing Dancing Diane's take on the story "Big Al." Another special thing we did this year was host our first school wide Project Based Learning Public Presentation! Our first graders worked so hard to research the topic of their expert group and come up with a way to present their knowledge. This was a challenge for a lot of kids because it really forced them to get out of their comfort zone and try learning in a new way. I was so proud to hear the way students presented what they had learned to all of you. The last event I have photos of to share is Field Day. I always love Field Day. It is so fun to watch kids working as a team, running around, and having fun with our class. -I hope to see you all at our Spring Fling this Friday from 4:30-7:00. First Grade teachers will be working at the Cotton Candy booth! :)
-Reminder: Planet Presentations are due next Wednesday, May 10th! Please come to our Public Presentation on Friday May 12th to see students present their research. -Be on the lookout for information coming home about our last week of school! Let me know if you have any questions! -Miss Turco Another amazing week in the books! I have a lot of updates so please read through this entire post! :) *We are officially going on a field trip to the Odysea Aquarium on April 3rd!!!!!!!! I am so excited for students to experience ocean habitats in person. I can take FOUR parent volunteers. It will be first come first serve based on who is on the approved parent volunteer list. If you would like to come please check with me to make sure you are on the list. You must have your Fingerprint Clearance Card AND have filled out the volunteer application for Rover. Once I have my four parent volunteers if you still would like to come you will have to pay the general admission price. *Next week is Parent/Teacher Conference week. Monday will be a normal day ending at 2:50. The rest of the week (Tuesday-Friday) will be early release. The dismissal bell will ring at 1:00. Please be on time to pick your child up as I have conferences scheduled after school. :) *Spring Break is 3/6-3/10. *Next Friday 3/3 is Field Day. There will be water stations so please send your child to school with a change of clothes. We had SO. MUCH. FUN. at our Valentine's Day celebration last week. Thank you for all the fruit donations, our "Friendship Fruit Salad" was quite a hit! Here are some photographs from our special day! Please let me know if you have any questions. I can't believe how quickly this year is flying by. This has been such a great year so far and I am excited to see what fourth quarter has in store! -Miss Turco :) Happy (almost) Valentine's Day! Please read this whole post for important upcoming information! *Tomorrow students will be delivering their Valentines and we will be making a Friendship Fruit Salad. If you plan on donating fresh fruit tomorrow, please wash it, and have it cut up and ready to go! I will not be able to wash and cut fruit during the school day. *On Wednesday morning we will be taking the district writing assessment. Students will be given a prompt and shown a video providing information about their prompt. They will have to take notes while watching the video to create a circle map, write a rough draft, edit their rough draft, and write their final draft, It is a lot of work but we have been practicing the last few weeks and I know they will do an amazing job! Please make sure they get a good night sleep on Tuesday night and eat a healthy breakfast on Wednesday morning. Maybe even save Valentine's Day candy for a reward on Wednesday after they finish their test! :) * I have sent out the sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please make sure to sign up ASAP as spots are filling up quickly, follow the link below.
