Hello All,
Wow! I can't believe we are about to start our last week of 3rd Quarter. This year has been flying by! Thank you to all the parents who signed up for our conference using Sign Up Genius, and thank you for being patient with me as we figured out this new online system. Since next week is parent/teacher conferences we will have a full day of school on Monday and the rest of the week will be early dismissal. We will get out of school at 1:05 Tuesday-Friday. I am looking forward to meeting with you and discussing all the amazing progress these first graders have made! Next week we have a few things going on. Monday is Read Across America. We will participate in "drop everything and read," in which our whole school will read from 8:30-9:00. The students may bring a book for home that peaks their interest for 30 min. I do have quite a few books in our class library, but I would like them to have a book they can read that whole time. In addition to Read Across America, next week is also Spirit Week. I will list the theme for each day so you can plan accordingly. Monday: Wear words on your shirt (please make sure they are school appropriate) Tuesday: Crazy sock day Wednesday: Wear orange Thursday: Wear stripes Friday: Wear red and blue All the themes were designed for a Dr. Seuss book. Can't wait to see all the kids showing school spirit! Next Week Reading: We will do Walk to Read from 8:30-9:45. This week we will be comparing and contrasting different versions of fairy tales. We will also be doing a Reader's Theater. Math: We will do math centers this week to review skills from 3rd Quarter. Our centers consist of time, missing addend, balanced equations, addition, and subtraction. Social Studies: We will be doing a week long unit on The United States Government. We will be learning about The President, the White House, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and American Symbols. Since we have short days this week we will be linking Social Studies and Writing together! See you for our conference! -Miss Turco :) **Thank you to all the students who wore pink or white on Friday to honor Maria, the SKILLS student who passed away over the weekend. It was great to see Rover staff and students support one another during a difficult time.
