I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! I can't believe we are staring our last quarter of the school year, it is going by so fast! This week we were very busy and the kids did a great job getting back into the routine of things. I have to say a HUGE thank you to Ashley Whipple. Our Art Walk chair looked AMAZING!!! Here is a picture of the adorable chair, and a sneak peak of our art for the Art Walk. For the Art Walk the first grade team decided to do Pop Art. It ended up being very challenging for the students, but they worked so hard and they turned out pretty awesome! I hope you got a chance to stop by the Art Walk and check them out!
Next Week Reading: Next week we will be reading the story The New Friend. Our phonics skill will be oi and oy. Our focus skill will be character traits. Now that we are approaching the end of the year NWEA assessment, we really want to dive deep into comprehension strategies. Writing: Last week our Pop Art ended up taking up a lot of our writing time. We started our thinking map to brainstorm ideas for out Personal Narrative. This week we will continue that and write a paragraph about what we did over spring break. I want to work on editing marks with this narrative and will have them write a rough draft and final draft. Math: We will begin subtracting double digit numbers without regrouping. This skill can be a challenge for some, so we will continue to work on it for the next few weeks. We will also be reviewing fractions, counting patterns, and word problems. As I said before, with the end of year NWEA assessments coming up we will want to review all of our first grade skills to make sure we are as prepared as possible. Grammar: We will be working on contractions this week. We will also be looking at parts of a sentence and identifying the parts of speech. Hope you are enjoying your weekend! -Miss Turco :) Reminders ** 4/10- Mother and Son event at Rover
