Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful week! Ours was certainly jammed packed, but lots of fun! We have been enjoying Dancing Diane this quarter. She has been and will continue to join us every Monday and Wednesday afternoon to work with all of first grade on a performance. Each class will be doing movements with a different story. Our story is Big Al. It is already looking fabulous! We are still finalizing the date of the performance. I promise I will let you know as soon as we have it set in stone so that you can plan ahead to be there. Some of you have asked when first grade will be taking the NWEA reading and math tests. We received the testing schedule this week. Here is our schedule: Reading Part 1: Friday 5/1- 8:45-9:30 Reading Part 2: Monday 5/4- 1:15-2:00 Math Part 1: Tuesday 5/5- 1:15-2:00 Math Part 2: Wednesday 5/6-1:12- 2:00 **Please plan ahead especially Friday 5/1 to be at school on time! Thank you! Next Week Reading: We will be reading What Can You Do? Our phonics skill of the week will be au, aw. We will also be working on base words inflections -er, and -est. Our focus skill will be author's purpose. Math: In math we will be doing a fun measurement unit! We will be using different units to measure things around the room and will practice using a ruler to measure in inches. We will be putting things in order from longest to shortest and shortest to longest. Writing/Science: With Dancing Diane joining us it has been difficult to get to science or social studies so I am combining it with writing for the next two weeks! We will be doing a unit on the Sun. We will be recording sun facts and will be doing a fun project to go with it! Grammar: We have learned about exclamatory, interrogative and telling sentences. We are doing to work to determine the difference between the three. We will also be working to identify what type of punctuation belongs at the end of a sentence. Reminders Mother/Son Event- TONIGHT from 5-7 Field Day - 4/24 I hope you have a great weekend! Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you! -Miss Turco :)
