What a week! We have been busy bees here at Rover! Starting Walk to Read this week has been a success. The students are getting comfortable with their new reading teachers and ready to rock first grade reading! Walk to Read really is an amazing program and I hope you are excited to see what it brings this year. Thank you so much to all the parents that came to curriculum night, if you were not able to attend I sent home a packet of information that we went over. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! I am so lucky to have such a wonderful class who put up with my hoarse voice for a few days! It was probably driving them crazy, but they are such troopers! Next week we will be taking the NWEA math and reading assessments Monday-Thursday at 10:00 AM. We will use these scores as a benchmark to see what each student needs this year in terms of academic instruction. We will talk about test taking but make sure your child has a hearty breakfast so they are able to do their best! Next Week Reading: We will be reading the story "The Storm," and focus on character traits. Our phonics skill of the week will be short vowel i. Writing: We will continue Write From the Beginning and will be writing about our story "The Storm," and we will also work on a personal narrative. Math: In math we will be making teen numbers using tens and ones, and ten frames. Science: We will continue our unit on the four seasons! Here are some photos of some fun math group work, and making a double bubble with our buddies! Have a great weekend!
