This week we were busy getting back on track after a fun filled week of art last week. We really jumped into double digit subtraction and man was I impressed! It was very cool to see ALL of the students grasp such a challenging concept. We will continue to work on this skill, but we are off to a great start!
Next week the 3rd graders will begin their state standardized testing. We will have a lot of discussions about being calm when walking place to place and the importance of the school being a quite testing environment for the older students. The two weeks following will be the 4th and then 5th graders week to take the test. Please discuss this with your children at home as well so they know what to expect. Testing can be stressful for teachers and students so we want to do our best to help testing go as smooth as possible!
We ended the week making adorable bunny ears with our second grade buddies. We had a fire drill right as we were finishing up so it was funny to see a sea of bunnies evacuate the building! Here are some cute pictures I took!
Reading: We will be reading the story The Dot. Our phonics sound of the week will be ie, igh. We will also be learning about inflectional endings, adding -ing, -ed, or -s. Our focus skill will be compare and contrast (MY FAVORITE!!).
Writing: In writing we will be reading the story Hey, Little Ant. We will be writing an opinion narrative that goes along with the story.
Math: In math we will be learning about even and odd numbers. We will also review double digit subtraction and addition.
Grammar: We will be working more with inflectional endings, and sentences that end with an exclamation mark!
**Exciting Announcement: Next week we will start working with Dancing Diane each Monday and Wednesday. First Grade will be putting on a performance at the end of the quarter. I will send out more information on this next week! :)
